To carry chickens up into the mountains, porters have special cage- cases that they carry on their backs. They carry around thirty chickens. The toughest porters carry up to 80 kg.
Windswept plains coming down from the Throng La Pass
Another irrigated green oasis in the middle of desert. North of the Annapurna mountains, this barren region escapes the monsoon rains in the summer.

Hey Steve, Great pictures. I find the bleak landscape as beautiful as the lush valleys. I don't know what your plans are for this summer. If you're in Calgary, do get out to Bow Hut. It's about as close as you'll get to lack of vegetation. It's rated four boots. Of course, for you it'll be a cake walk. I am so envious of you. Congrats on doing Annapurna!
Have you any ironed out your plans for the next two weeks? Are you looking forward to coming back to Canada for a while?
