Some Destinations for India/Nepal
The following is a rough, rough plan for my adventure, which I am only making because I want to be in Dharamsala for HH's teachings and because I want it to not be cold in Nepal when I'm trekking.
Dharamsala, India - HH Dalai Lama is teaching for 10 days in early March. I missed the one day of teachings in Vancouver, but I stumble into ten days worth in India. Life works out.
Rishakesh, India - Mountainous spiritual retreat - world famous for yoga, ashrams, and retreats by the Beatles (particularly one of the few rock stars of real substance, George Harrison). I'd like to spend a few weeks here learning yoga and Hindu philosophy.
Haridwar, India - Major major pilgrimage site for Hindus, Hope to pass through for the festival of Baisakhi, where a million or so should flock to Haridwar.
Annapurna Circuit, Nepal - Apparently one of the most gorgeous, hospitable treks in the world. Passes through a variety of ecosystems, from jungle to glacier.
Kathmandu, Nepal - Pass through here for a week to rest up for the Everest trek, investigate the Rangjung Yeshe Institute (Buddhist university I'm pondering applying to after I finish up this degree,) and explore mountaineering opportunities/training.
Khumbu Region, Nepal - Trek leading into the Everest region. Will hopefully get a chance to look through Everest base camp and climb a nearby trekking (~6000m) peak.
Varanasi, India - If I said Haridwar was a holy city, the same goes twice for Varanasi. If there is significant time left over, I may look into Sanskrit or sitar lessons here.
